Can our districts, our towns, give birth to branded dishes that conquer the globe while honoring the local heritage? This is the crux of this forum. In a growingly globalized world, while we can enjoy the cooking delights of the globe, Indian food seems to find it difficult to standardize and commercialize the local delicacies.

Eating out and exploring different global cuisines has become a dominating part of the modern lifestyle. As per a recent survey, 29.86% of people enjoy dining out on Sundays. Whether it is MacDonald’s burger (which is an American food) or Domino’s Pizza (An Italian specialty), people across the world enjoy these fast-food options with the same quality and taste, thanks to the successful standardization by the brands.

However, amidst the fervor of global cuisine, have you ever pondered about the untapped potential of India’s own culinary treasures? A land teeming with flavors and cuisines, India boasts an exceptional array of fast-food candidates, yet remarkably, no Indian brand has etched its mark on the world stage.

It’s not that we do not have the potential

  • Local legacy foods have the capability of attracting a global audience: From North India’s Chole Bhature and Vada Pav to South India’s Idli and Dosa, we have vast varieties of recipes from different parts of India. These diverse recipes have the potential to attract global audiences who are interested in trying flavorful recipes.
  • Indian cuisine offers extended varieties of vegetarian and vegan recipes: In recent times, vegetarianism and veganism have become popular. Indian cuisine offers plenty of vegetarian and vegan recipes that incorporate a variety of healthy ingredients (vegetables, pulses, millets, grains, spices etc.) and can be a great option for vegan and vegetarian diets.
  • Our food diversity is highly underrated

Even today, most of the Indian cuisine is unexplored by the global population. They only know the popular food items or cuisines like Idli, butter chicken, roti, dosa etc. however the flavourful street food or snacks, regional hits like dahi bhalla, litti chokha, thalipeet etc. are unknown. The prospect for commercializing and popularizing these food items is huge.

With the digital age upon us, it is time to leverage digitization and automation to create a formidable Indian food brand. Imagine empowering local communities, transforming homemakers into culinary entrepreneurs and steering our legacy towards fresh avenues of prosperity. Forge partnerships with local culinary artisans, enlisting their expertise to guide authenticity through each bite. Through the power of technology, market and brand, these cuisines, improving appreciation and bridging the gap between plate and palate.
